Looking back on Veterans Day and Election Day I am reminded of my grandmother and her letters written in 1896 while she was attending the Ogontz School for Young Ladies in Philadelphia. She wrote that as part of their history class they were allowed to vote in class for president, for either McKinley or Bryan. But this was just a school exercise because she and her female classmates would not be legally able to vote until they were 42 years of age, (24 years later). It's important to think back to them not having that freedom to vote, and that slavery was a part of this country's past, and remember all the veterans that have fought for our freedom.

I am thankful for this project work called genealogy, where we constantly learn about the past that helps us appreciate our here and now.
