From Judy Line:
All,
First: DNA is becoming a hot topic in genealogy. By having volunteers who are familiar with the testing companies and how to utilize the test results is one way to distinguish HQRL as being prominent in the genealogical world and to draw customers/members. Membership is the life blood of our library, it is imperative that we each do what we can to continue to draw in members. Please take this opportunity to increase your own knowledge. If you can not attend, please contact me after the 17th and we can work on possibly scheduling a time in which you can fit this into your schedule.
Second: I have been getting queries from many members asking for information on specific genealogical software. I was hoping to collect a list of volunteers and the software that they use. So if you are willing to please include your name, the standalone software that you use (i.e. Legacy, Family Tree Maker), and the web site that you are familiar with (i.e. Ancestry, FamilySearch, GEDmatch, FTDNA, AncestryDNA, 23andMe). Also include if you are or are not willing to possibly answer questions for those looking for assistance with that software. Remember, the point to the library is to provide the tools to those who need assistance to do their own genealogical research. This is another great way to do this.
Third: If you haven't noticed, there is a web site listed on the bulletin board that provides short learning video's on how to use Microsoft and other software (such as internet email). It is a great place to increase your own knowledge and be able to assist our visitors when they need some help. Even if you don't make use of it, be aware it is there so you can suggest it if a customer seems to be struggling.
Our jobs are all about being helpful to the customer/members and here are several ways to be able to do this. Judy
